| Summary, etc | Wann lösen Kaufleute ihre Konflikte mit Hilfe der öffentlichen Justiz, wann hingegen auf alternativen Wegen, also mehr oder weniger privat? In 16 Fallstudien aus Mittel- und Westeuropa, die einen Bogen vom Mittelalter bis zum 20. Jahrhundert spannen, untersuchen die Autoren entweder die Strategien von Kaufleuten bei der Wahl des geeigneten Instruments für ihre Interessendurchsetzung oder aber die speziellen Markt- und Handelsgerichte, welche - nicht selten unter Einfluss der kaufmännischen Justiznutzer selbst - für die Regelung ihrer Angelegenheiten und Bedürfnisse eingerichtet wurden. Die Aufsätze sind auf Deutsch, Französisch oder Englisch verfasst; Kurzfassungen in den beiden anderen der drei Tagungssprachen sind beigefügt.
