Summary, etc Im Mai 1924 wurde in Berlin die Soncino-Gesellschaft der Freunde des jüdischen Buches gegründet. Benannt nach der jüdischen Druckerfamilie Soncino des 15. und 16. Jahrhunderts in Italien, hatte sich diese erste jüdische Bibliophilen-Gesellschaft die Publikation seltener jüdischer Texte und wertvoller hebräischer Drucke zum Ziel gesetzt. Mitglieder der Gesellschaft waren namhafte Persönlichkeiten, Bibliotheken, jüdische Logen und Kultureinrichtungen im In- und Ausland. Ihre Mitgliederzahl betrug über 800. Der Band, der aus Anlass des 90. Gründungsjubiläum der Soncino-Gesellschaft erscheint, geht in acht Essays der Geschichte der Vereinigung und ihrem Engagement für die hebräische Buchkultur nach, beleuchtet das Netzwerk ihrer Mitglieder und mögliche zionistische Einflüsse und hinterfragt die Wirkungsgeschichte der Gesellschaft. Ein umfangreicher Anhang mit einer Bibliographie der Publikationen und erstmals einer möglichst vollständigen Liste der Mitglieder der Soncino-Gesellschaft ergänzt den Band.
