Summary, etc In Arthur Schnitzlers 1893/94 entstandener, in der Wiener Neuen Revue erstveröffentlichten Erzählung Blumen berichtet ein Ich-Erzähler in tagebuchartigen Eintragungen von den monatlichen Blumensendungen seiner ehemaligen Geliebten, die auch nach deren Tod weiter eintreffen. Die morbide Atmosphäre der ersten Niederschrift nahm Schnitzler durch eine komplizierte Umschichtung und Überarbeitung des Textmaterials etwas zurück, dennoch bleibt sie - trotz rationaler Erklärungsversuche - bis zum Ende bestehen. Erst durch den frischen Frühlingsstrauß einer neuen Gefährtin wird die gespenstische Stimmung aufgehoben. Dieser zehnte Band der historisch-kritischen Ausgabe präsentiert alle nachgelassenen handschriftlichen Materialien - faksimiliert in Originalgröße mit entsprechenden Transkriptionen. Die überaus komplexe Textgenese wird ausführlich dargestellt und durch den zusätzlichen Abdruck der Umschriften in der rekonstruierten genetischen Reihenfolge veranschaulicht. Der konstituierte Text folgt dem Erstdruck in der Zeitschrift Neue Revue; er wird ergänzt durch einen Kommentar und einen Variantenapparat bis zur Ausgabe letzter Hand. Damit lässt sich die Entstehungsgeschichte des Textes nun erstmals exakt nachverfolgen.
