| Summary, etc | Das kartografische Œuvre dreier Mailänder Militärarchitekten - Natale, Nicolò und Paolo Angielini - gibt einen hervorragenden Überblick zum habsburgischen Festungsbau im 16. Jahrhundert. Betrachtungen zur frühen Kartografie zu Ungarn und Wien wie zur Entwicklung des Festungsbaus in der frühen Neuzeit stecken den Rahmen ab. Im Fokus steht die Fortifikation von Wien, die nördlich der Alpen als eines der frühen Beispiele der Militärarchitektur dieser Epoche zu charakterisieren ist. Die Auswertung zahlreicher Bild- und Schriftquellen ermöglicht es, die Umgestaltung der habsburgischen Residenzstadt zur Festung präzise nachzuzeichnen. Ergänzend werden 49 weitere von den Angielinis dargestellte Festungen analysiert, die Zeugnis von den Maßnahmen der Türkenabwehr nach 1529 geben. |
